Barcelona, The Catalonian capital

Barcelona is the capital city of tCatalonia and the second largest city in Spain. It has a population of 1,615,908 .

It is located on the Mediterranean coast between the Llobregat and Besòs rivers and is bounded to the west by the Serra de Collserola ridge.

Barcelona has a huge importance in finance, commerce, media, entertainment, arts and international trade. Barcelona International Airport is the second largest in Spain.

This inspiring city was founded by the Romans and later became the capital of the Counts of Barcelona. After merging with the Kingdom of Aragon, it became one of the most important cities of the Crown of Aragon. During its history it has been besieged several times, but today it is an important cultural centre and a major tourist destinationwith a rich cultural heritage. The most well-knowns are architectural works of Antonio Gaudí and Lluís Domènech i Montaner that have been designated UNESCO World Heritage Sites. The city is well known in recent times for the 1992 Summer Olympics.
